Can you remember the first time you used the new fandango thing called the world wide web? Was it at school or at home? If your mid 40’s, middle of the road America like Boxes in Fields, it was probably at school. Then if you were lucky within a few years there was dial up at home. Dial up used primarily for school related activities as there were no other pages to view on the world wide web except PHD papers, scholarly journals, and other knowledge related whatnots. But oh it was so exciting!

Internet since its conception has been a source of frustration. It existed but unaffordable. Afforded but not usable as there were too many home inhabitants trying to use the same ONE phone line for both phone calls and web research. Connection sounds but no connections. Connection but disconnection for any reason under the sun. Usable but slow. Fast but too expensive. Fast but not available. And to think that was all back in the 90’s.

Or last week if you live in the VAST majority of the great (in your most mocking voice) United States. Boxes in Fields live less than two miles from the center of a city of 20K plus residents where the only internet available is satellite or WIFI hot spots. Neither of which are reliable, affordable, or functional. Our quiet or not so quiet frustration at the lack of internet plagues not only Boxes in Fields but every small town or not so small town across all states. Before moving into Boxes in Fields way back in Nov 2016, due diligence and the local cable internet website stated services were available. Only after the ink dried did the local provider state it was not actually on our street but five blocks away. Sure, it could be brought across for 60K or we could wait until the service provider brought it on their own accordance within the next few years.

Few years, fours years. All the same in the grand scheme of the cosmos. Eternity in the life of a modern first world society. Well the time has finally come and Boxes in Fields no longer has to rely on cell service for internet or worry if the winds blows too hard knocking out the WIFI box floating above the tree lines. First world cable internet has arrived. So exciting!
