Halfway House Adoptee
Boxes in Fields is the Underground Railroad for lost critters. First there was the Lost Rooster way back in 2017. Then there was the two chickens within a few weeks of each other establishing the Halfway House in November 2018. The first rooster; Chicken; was fully accepted and is still rounding up his flock daily. The hen became an aggressive setter, the second rooster stalked the hens, and they both were chickens in a pot. Last summer was the family affair, Loca and her two offspring Beans and Frank, which technically belonged to the Tween neighbor but hung out with us except at dinner time. Oh, how the Kid loved Beans and Frank. Since August of 2019, all has been quite on the rail line. Until this month. December has been a busy month.
Two weeks passed between the black and white cat and the orange and white cat. Neither lasted very long as the doggo is an excellent cat chaser. BW was friendlier than OW as she was still young. OW looked like she/he had been on the road for a while. There is a third cat, Slinky, but no pictures exist as he/she is hardly seen and is more like a mirage than actual cat. He a gray long haired tabby.
Winter has arrived early this year and since Boxes in Fields in not in the cat adoption agency, the Kid built a scrap wood kitty box complete with carpet flooring and dry roofing so they could have someplace warm to sleep. Food is not provided either but there are no restrictions on the food scrap/compost bin. Fairly certain that is where they were eating anyways.
Sayings are what sayings are, people do not adopt cats, cats adopt people. During one of our nightly walks, the Planner and I were followed home. We tried to detach ourselves from this leg crawler she had other plans. Noodles has been with us for a week now. We weakened our defenses and bought a bag of food as she was just skin and bones. She doesn’t come inside as I am NOT changing cat litter. Been there, done that, not doing it again. She is an outside cat who is fed. That is it. Nothing more, nothing less. Don’t know how long she will be here but here is she, a Xmas Kitty.
