Pantry Cabinets Painted
Gosh the weather has been so beautiful. Not November or December weather as they are warm, sunny, and dry. Perfect for painting. Instead of painting the Planner and I have spent the last two days sanding.

Two days! It took two days of sanding to remove all the fibers from the pantry bases, cabinets, drawers, and doors. Some places looked like they should get a second layer of primer but there is just not enough time or primer. Planner says he will try to lay the paint on slightly heavier. Heavier without runs. Here’s hope…

Have I mentioned the Planner is good. Not perfect but good. He painted all the bases and cabinets in the confinement of his Shop Box without runs or metal dust/debris on the white paint. Why? Because it is cold and wet outside. So much for nice weather. Miracle? Absolutely. Snowbound White is my new favorite white color. Soft but bright.

Needing room to paint the drawers and doors the bases and cabinets were brought into the pantry to finish drying. Hopefully they won’t stick too bad. Not holding any hope.

The next day all the drawers, doors, and shelves were painted. Just like the primer, the paint was applied on the bases of the drawers and the backside of the doors first. Shelves will be seen from both sides so starting sequence did matter. Moving all these around and around each other to apply paint layers was so tricky.

Allowing the drawer, doors, and shelves time to fully cure we gave them two days to set with the dehumidifier running at 40% day in day out. White is not the final color of these. The final color was chosen by the Planner as I stuck in limbo for three weeks and couldn’t make a decision. Slightly frustrated at me, the Planner went into Sherwin Williams looked at my choices laid out again, then their colors and walked out the door. He wouldn’t even tell me the color. “Trust me,” he says. “Have I ever steered you wrong?” he says. Drawer faces, shelves and doors in their entirety will be painted the final color. To complete this step, the drawer faces were taped from the inside out giving the Planner room to paint without over spray.

To aide with the over spray a spray template was made using cardboard cutouts. Drawer face sizes were drawn onto the cardboard box, the matching square hole was cut and lined with tape. Drawer face was placed in the hole with the sticky side of the tape up. The tape was then taped with more tape into the cardboard box to keep the paint pressure from lifting up the tape. Starting with the four smallest drawers, the hole in the cardboard was cut bigger to accommodate the middle sized drawer and then the largest drawer.

Cardboard protector worked like a champ. The most difficult part was removing the drawer without bumping the sides. Never wracking and only happened once. Prepared I was with a warm damp rag to wipe away to blue.

Yes blue. It is times like this that I want to kiss him, marry him, attack him all over again. Blue! My most favorite of favorite colors. Blue with just enough gray to be warm, calm, soothing. BLUE! Blistery Sky is my new favorite blue color. Rest my beauties and I will hang you in a few days. Promise.
