Pantry Knob Fun
Designing a kitchen is not something not to be done over a weekend. Upon reviewing phone photos, I could say the very first images for my perfect kitchen go back to 2011 when I found a ultra modern, simply galley kitchen with sink, stove, counter on one side and open shelves on the other. From that point there are a half dozen pictures of kitchens inspiring my ultimate perfect kitchen. Every time the house lay out changed, so did the kitchen. One thing has remained the same for all house designs, the kitchen is the focal point.

When designing in my head what I wanted the pantry and kitchen cabinets to look like I was very specific on a feeling. Back in 2017, I found this modern farm kitchen and immediately knew my kitchen would have this feel, minus the tacky Saltillo tile and marble countertop. Then last year I found this picture and the kitchen/pantry was formed, minus the white marble countertop, of course. It was functional furniture, and more importantly, it exhibited feelings. My kitchen will not have cold marble countertops with boring white, gray, or naturel wood cabinets nor tiles floors. It will have color, and usable countertops, and easy to clean cabinets.

And fun, whimsical knobs. Searching for knobs is endless. So many styles and designs, old or new, knobs or pulls, solid or shaped. To install the knobs, center was located and an awl marked center.

Taped was applied to the inside to keep the wood from shredding, a hole was drilled, and 1/4″ barrel were inserted as original knob screws were too short to reach through door faces and drawer and because they create a clean finish on the inside.

Classy. Fun. Found on used Etsy, contain blemishes, tarnished screws, and irregularity in the painting. Twice the cost as new ones found on Amazon. No, thanks. I want the ones with memories, with character, with feeling.

Not trendy, not modern, not cold, not boring. Totally me. Now to decide on the countertop. Cypress like the doors (sample under cookbooks), southern yellow pine like the bathroom (sample under the light), laminate like the trailer, solid surface, or butcherblock. Thinking….
