Silly Little Things

Silly Little Things

Silly things make the world go round. Not work, not money, not possessions, not fame. Silly little things. Boxes in Fields tries to keep the levity when things get crazy. Like work. Work, the paying kind, has been very busy these last few months not allowing much time or energy to make progress on the Dwelling. Design. August was spent designing cabinets for the pantry as the Doubter is going to build them at his house. Once done we will collect them, paint them, and install them. Design is mentally exhausting. After every cabinet upper and lower, drawers top and bottom were done the Planner turned around and needed to design a work base for a tool in the Shop Box. The Planner needs a mental break so the first part of September was used to complete those silly things that don’t much time but never seem to get started or completed. Like the window buttons last month. Took five minutes and yet they weren’t completed for almost two years.

One of those silly little things is this now never ending water tank leak. The last attempt to weld was done during those days when the Doubter was present and sick and everyone scattered outside to give him space. Helping transfer 500 gallons of water to test weld strength was something he helped with before he left on Saturday. Weld held perfectly until last week. Then bam a sprinkler system. Normally the Planner would have collected the remaining water as Boxes in Fields cannot afford to waste water but time is kinda strapped. Instead we have a perfect zen location. When stress gets to be too much just pop a squat and let the water wash the stress away.

Less than a month after sending the Doubter the plans for the pantry cabinet, the cabinets were ready. This man does not understand the statement “take your time”. The cabinets were not a silly little amount either. To collect these we had to use the 12′ work trailer as there were so many cabinet boxes, so many drawers, so many doors. While collecting them it was discovered the neighbor, Cousin C, has a pet pony. Such a tiny little thing with the most gigantic eyes. Oh. My. Word. Please add pet pony to my June Cleaver wish list.

Having completed a half dozen silly little things, the Planner took the last two weeks to get busy building this not silly, not little concrete work base. The base is not silly nor little. It takes a forklift to move and weighs a metric ton. Sometimes I wish the Planner built miniatures instead of life size projects. As it seems with so many projects, this base will have to set aside as the pantry cabinets are top priority now. Having raw, unpainted wood in the Shop Box is a terrible idea. Too much grinding dust, metal debris, sand, dirt, oil, etc…

Other silly little things are animals. How can something so non human work into your being, your very fibers? Boxes in Fields has two cats. One white fluffy thing we just feed for the most part and the other is a multi color tan bobbed tail llama. Well not a real llama but here hair is several layers thick like a llama. Both are outside cats (mostly the white can come and go as she pleases, the llama is strictly outside) who only eat inside to keep the stray critters down. Doesn’t stop strays but helps. Half dozen strays have been rounded up and dropped off at the local shelter this year alone. See stray, collect stray, don’t think twice about it. Tiger Man McCool on the other came bounding down the road straight into the Planners lap and purred his way into his heart. Nope. Don’t even bring him to me. Call the shelter. NOW.

Not a silly little thing but the biggest mistake of the year. Maybe ever. Just look at his eyes! His ears! Before I even came to realize another stray had made its presence the Planner had named him. He has never named anything, ever. Should have kept Tiger Man McCool. He may be gone but he will forever be with us. Sorry Planner. Sorry Tiger. My mistake.
