Where The Green Box Grows
What a month! From start to finish, painting the Work Box took just close to two months to complete. Technically, it took eight plus months as the blue side developed Work Box Pox way back in December. But to be fair, nothing was done between then and now. Nothing concerned with painting. Lots of work has been done to the Work Box in other areas such as desks, wind reader, and water collection.
Starting the middle of July, work on the green Conex box resumed with sandblasting and primer painting on the east window and window eyebrow.
The very next day, sandblasting and primer on the north window, the window eyebrow, and a few patch jobs where the rust broke through and sandblasting created a hole. Three of the four sides now had Work Box pox.
The first week of August was crazy busy. On Wednesday, all of the hatches were removed and placed on metal saw horses for painting. Windows were covered in heavy duty plastic to protect from paint overspray but was torn down in the 30+mph winds on Thursday.
Thursday by the light of the late setting moon and the doggo glaring at us from her bed on the deck, the windows were tapped again and the boxes were prepped for painting.
With the paint mixed by headlamp and the Planner prepped for painting, painting began before the sun even broke over the horizon.
Window hatches were up first. The theory was by the time the boxes were done, the hatches could be flipped over for the second side paint.
By the time the sun finally broke over the tree line, the Planner had already moved onto the south of the blue box. By 8:20am, he had the entire east wall completed, too.
An hour and half later, the north wall and second sides of the window hatches were also completed. Three walls and all the hatches were done and it was just after 10am. Good grief, to bad all jobs don’t go this well.
Saved for last this due to the level of work required with back door hinges and stainless steel tag plates to remove and repair, the west wall took two full days to strip of stickers and decals, sandblast, and primer.
As August was coming to an end, the roof of the Work Box was sandblasted, holes repaired, and primed. The roof will not be painted green but will be topped with a white, potable coating for rain water collection.
Wow, what a difference a bright, shiny green box can make. Kinda make the rest of the boxes look dull and gloomy. Why green? From space and the road beyond, the Work Box is where green box grows out of a green field.
